The future of the Internet in 2 minutes

a sign above a motorway saying welcome to the world wide web with traffic moving quickly down the fast lane and slowly down the lane with less dollar on the sign

I’ve been invited by Robert Loch to give my 2 minute sound bite on where I think the Internet is heading. So, you’ll just have to attend the networking event if you’d like to hear my thoughts.

Generally the Internet People events are very cool and worthwhile attending if you want to mingle with very talented entrepreneurs, commentators and investors. It was co-founded by Robert and Paul Birch – who also co-founded Bebo, Cominded and BirthdayAlarm.

Thanks for the invite Robert :)
Other folk (who are obviously smarter than me) presenting their ideas include

George Berkowski, Head of Internet Strategy, BT Retail
Angus Bankes, Co-founder, Moreover Technologies
Richard Moross, Founder, Moo.com
Avid Larizadeh, Associate, Accel Partners
Madhuban Kumar, Advisor, Doughty Hanson
Julia Shalet, Head of Product, WeeWorld
Nic Brisbourne, Partner, Esprit Capital Partners
Paul Birch, Founder of Cominded, Co-founder BirthdayAlarm
Michael Smith, Founder of Mind Candy Design, Co-founder Firebox

You should be able to guess what I’m going to cover from the categories this post falls under.

Update – event is now full.

I’ve noticed that Sam Sethi, Publisher, Vecosys.com is now on the list of speakers.

  1. [...] I thoroughly enjoyed the Internet People networking event last night. I ended up in a club yet again with Robert and a few others – he’s a seriously bad influence! [...]

Gah! That one went right under my radar!
I was at the last (or one of the last) Internet People nights, the Innovation one.

Maybe catch you if you are at another event in London again soon.

    -Robin.

Hi Robin – I’ll be at the next mashup event on February 22nd if you’re around. I’ll probably attend a few before that but haven’t made plans yet – why don’t you subscribe to the feed. It’s good to meet up with other Irish in London.

    already subscribed :-)

For sure! I was hoping to attend BarCamp but couldn’t guarantee a ticket so flying back to Dublin instead.

I should make that mashup… and I’m planning on Chinwag next tuesday.

I’m hoping to attend the BarCamp event myself – apparently the first 100 went within 15 minutes!

Which Chinwag event are you attending as I can’t find any information on their site?

Although it now appears sold out – and I don’t rmemeber paying for a ticket. I better look it up, but it’s on my calendar. Might throw myself on the cancellations list.

Damn -it’s the annoying thing around here… all this ‘waiting list’ lark for tech events!

p.s. I’m booked on the 22nd Feb Mashup, so see you then.

Ah, that’s why I was confused. The Chinwag event is on the 6th, not next Tuesday ;)

I Chair a trade association (BIMA) which runs its own events. I’ve been talking to the likes of Robert and Paul at Internet People about partnering to widen the audience for Web and Startup related events. We’ve got some compelling ideas for a new type of event – will keep you posted.

See you on the 22nd if not before.

next tue is the 6th of Feb!

Events sound great, yes – keep me posted please!

    Doh! You’re right dude, thanks.

BTW, I’m heading to Dublin tomorrow for a meeting with Enterprise Ireland on Thursday. Keep an eye out for a post if you wish to do dinner tomorrow night as I intend to give an open invite (limited seats obviously).

    Dear Ser,
my name is Bruna Inguanti, I’m a student at the University of Palermo in Italy. I’m writing a thesis about the Web and I would like to know if is possible for me to use the image “welcome to the world wide web” that I saw on your Blog.

    Kind regards

Bruna, if only I had asked the original owner for permission! Oops.
