What a great start to 2008

I woke up this morning to Google alerts informing me that a few bloggers had been talking about me (or Segala) while I was asleep. The one to mention was Damien Mulley’s blog post entitled ‘One to watch in 2008‘.

Damien, a name that would appear on the list if it was for the fact that it’s his list, was recently awarded ‘Technology Journalist’ of the year and is Ireland’s number 1 blogger. So, he holds a very qualified opinion given that his finger is firmly on the digital pulse. More so, than any newspaper or magazine. I was tipped as ‘One to watch out for in 2007′ by Revolution Magazine, but truth be told, I’m more flattered to have appeared on Damien’s list.

I’m so flattered about making the list myself that I decided to write a post to draw your attention to it. I didn’t write a post when Revolution Magazine listed me, probably because I knew that most of last year was going to be about laying foundations, for both Segala and BIMA, the two organisations with which I can be measured.

I’m looking forward to 2008 because it’s the year for us to open our doors to show the world exactly what we’ve been working on for the past couple of years. If you’re interested in seeing more trust enabled in search results then watch this space.

Well done to the rest of the guys on the list, make sure to show your mothers :)

It’s well deserved mate and if you don’t know it, you should. You do more promotional work by being part of the communities you serve than anyone I know.

Where’s Sethi. He needs to be watched!!

He told a friend of mine that he is setting up an association.

Something to like the Interactive, Mobile, Media, Marketing and Mashup association. If true, you have to give him credit for optimism.

Well done Paul and I’m glad no anxieties have arisen from the high expectations cast upon you…

(Apologies for drawing attention away from you here with this one) but on the note of watchfulness worthies for 2008…

    Are you aware of bigthink.com???

A new networking site that aims to mix interviews with public intellectuals from a variety of fields, from politics, to law to business, and allows users to engage in debates on issues like global warming and the two-party system. It plans to add new features as it goes along, including a Facebook-like application for social networking. Site co-founder Peter Hopkins said he would like the site to become a popular place for college students looking for original sources.

The interview style, which Big Think’s founders said was derived from a technique used by filmmaker Errol Morris, places the interviewer in an even smaller closet, behind a shower curtain, hidden from the subject and making the person asking the questions almost an afterthought. The subject hears the questions from a closed-circuit monitor.

The finished product even eliminates the interviewer’s voice, and the questions appear as text on the screen. The goal is to not create a confrontation between interviewer and interviewee, or goad the subject into saying something provocative (but if it happens, that is a bonus.)

Do you believe this is a site worthy of been this year’s success storey? (next to you of course :)
